Hey, I've been thinking about a 6.8 and would like to know what exactly is required to convert my Ar-15 5.56 to a 6.8.  Do I just need a new compete upper?  And how does the lower mag well work with the 6.8?
I have a DPMS AR if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your help

Firstly, you might try to ask the question in a more appropriate forum than a Retro forum where there is no 6.8 caliber.

Not to slam the OP, because it was probably an honest mistake, but what is it about the word "RETRO" that seems to confuse people so much?  Seems like there is at least one post every couple of days from guys wanting info on something that is decidedly un-retro.  I just can't imagine that all those posts are accidents due to "happy fingers".

OP: if I knew anything about the 6.8 chambering, I'd do my best to answer your question regardless.  I am ignorant on the subject.

So if I were to be putting something together with an A1 lower, 2 position Aluminum EA stock, A1 upper, handmade A1 flash hider, Repro 601 charging handle, slipring instead of delta, XM gray upper and lower, waffle 20 rd. mag, A1 pistol grip, and it happened to be chambered in something a bit more interesting than 5.56, let's say .458 Socom... You would have me put my first picture of it elsewhere?

<while the sharks are on a feeding frenzy>

To the OP,
You only need a barrel, bolt and magazines.

You WILL get better responses in the Variants forum.

Oh, you could post a picture of it, but any mention of .458 Socom would be forbidden.

Somehow, I doubt that was the case.  Again, I'm not slamming the OP; just agreeing that there are better forumns to solicite that information in. But to answer your question, IN MY LOWLY OPINION, I wouldn't think an "exotic" chambering would negate retro status.  So when are you going to post those pics?

This comes from a guy with an avatar of a guy who will stab you in the back at the drop of a hat.

After reading an article about 6.8 in the latest Guns and Ammo I'm thinking about a 6.8 "retro-ish" build for hunting deer.
Of course that would have to get in line behind the other 3 builds I'm working on.
