What year was the green nylon sling introduced during the Vietnam conflict? What about the black 'silent sling'?

I don't know, but I had one on my M14 in 1968. As I remember, there was a mix of those and the web slings.

I think those are the same ones CMP gives to you with an M1 Garand...

CMP has not given slings with their Garands for years

Picked this up at a fun show over the week end for ten bucks. Found it in a bin of M1 Garand slings. A very good place to look for green M16 slings, most dealers don't know the difference.
It measures 44" OAL minus the S hook for the sling swivel.

AFAIK, the OD green (OD #7 if you want to get technical) slings were first used in late 1944 for the M1 Garand; then used in the M14 and eventually in the M16 (some of the M14 and M16 slings of this type were either OD cotton or OD Nylon)

The link will connect you to all the slings used by every US weapon used since The Civil War.

BTW, here's my own sling; the entire thing is minty, except for the rolling buckle, since I could not find the one it came with.

That black USMC sling is exactly what I have been looking for a Goltguard SP1 I am a new owner of. Any possibility that anyone could help me acquire one in as good of shape?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

This black cotton web sling can be found at www.cjweapons.com/aspcart45/prodetails.asp?prodid=396&start=1 for $14.95/ea.

They also list a green nylon sling for the M-14, although that sling does fine on my  green AR's (AR-10 and M-15A2 NM):

I've bought several from there, and they're good to go.

Thanks all! One link was actually to a Local Missouri Company. Gota feed those on the home front first.

That's a 1980's USMC sling.  It's made from the same nylon as the later black sling and typical black silent sling.

The nylon sling you are thinking of is made from seatbelt like nylon webing and is more brown than green.  The hardware has a zinc coating that get whitish with age.  As far as I know the USMC fielded them from 1966 on.
