My "old" rifle.  A factory Colt Target sporter with a new old stock Colt GI barrel and peel washer.  Did put a Cav arms A1 length stock with a Colt A2 plate on it as I never liked the long A2 stock.  Now has a Trijicon front sight.  Finish from the factory is close, but just like any other real A2 I used, they do not fully color match.

Man, I wish I took pics of ANY of the ones I used on active duty.  I mostly can't remember even if they were A1's or A2's, though I know the one at Quantico in '78 was an A1.  You AD guys should take pics, you'll want them later.  Trust me.

I suppose I should take pix as some day people will never believe the strange combinations we use today.
That A2 in the last pix has already been to rebuild in 1996 so it has alot of miles on it.

Nice rifles!

I regret not taking pics of my A1, and A2 while I was on active duty.

I remember being issued new A2s in the mid '80s, no close up pics though. It was about the time we were issued Berettas too.

+1

I have a few pics of me with my issued weapon, but no close up detailed pics. Never thought of taking any at the time.

I carried an A1 in Germany and when I got back stateside I was issued a Brand new Colt A2.  While I thought it was sweet... In the long run I missed the A1 more.  WarDawg

Carried an A1 from 85-87.

Turnd in the A1’s for brand-new A2’s in 87.

I never seen an Colt M16A2 when I was in "Infantryland". But I did see and carry a metric shit ton of the FN made M-16A2's in the early 90's. I recall the one I had in OSUT, S/N 7,019,8XX, was the earlier, lighter, "Colt Gray" like the "Pony Gray" listed at US Anodizing.

And for the life of me, fourteen years later, I don't know why I still remember that weapons serial number.
