So I looked all around here and got a good idea for what I'm getting myself into.

Basically I already have a virgin lower that was purchased as a pistol and am looking to build it up and throw a shorty upper on it.

My curiosity is, if I put a regular m4 style buffer tube on with NO stock, is that a no no or does it not matter, as long as I never attack a stock to the buffer tube?

You can't put on on that will accept a stock.

I'm working on a build myself and I just went with the spikes tactical kit.

Incorrect.  You can use any buffer tube/receiver extension that you like.  Some people will modify the tube so that it can not accept a stock, but it's not required.

Thanks! I was curious because I already have a spare buffer tube sitting around and I'm trying to save money where ever possible.

Thanks again!

So you can use a standard AR lower with a standard buffer tube for a pistol AR, as long as there's no stock on it (and no vertical grip on the handguards as well)?
