I spoke with Paul at YHM today and they are now offering the LR300 as a pistol as well. I placed an order with an 11 1/2 barrel ( the shortest offered). There is virtually no buffer tube with this design because the recoil is in the forearm. Ill post pics once I get it in and tested.

Ummmmm...

If that's not an AOW, you probably don't want to post pics with a forward grip on it.

If it is an AOW, carry on.

GTG.

Since I got my pistol, I've toyed with the idea of SBR'ing one of my rifles or AOW'ing my pistol.

Decisions, decisions...

What I did was buy a kit . P/N LR-300-ML-AXL-KIT and did a swap out from the standard stock supplied to the stock plug shown in the pics. They now have the stock plugs in inventory. The total cost to me without the extras shown in the pic was $1087.00
I also received a free T-shirt and free shipping which was a nice unexpected suprize.

Thanks for the info.
Soooo..........since it was being used to build a pistol, did they sell it to you without a tax stamp? I tried to buy the same thing directly from ZM weapons, but they wouldn't sell it to me without the tax stamp

AOW?  Hmmm...

9/14/2005    9:27:52 PM NDT  Places Order
9/16/2005    9:06:16 AM NDT Confirms pistol being built
9/25/2005  11:14:12 AM NDT Pics displayed of an pistol with forward grip = AOW
9/25/2005    5:55:40 PM NDT  Confirms it's an AOW

Yes I agree it's an AOW, but probably not a legal AOW because that would have been the fastest ATF turnaround this century....

Prediction:  10/3/2005   9:30:00 PM NDT  All evidence of the "photoshop of a weapon that looks like mine" is erased and dismantled hopefully before the ATF kicks in your door.
_________

Dvalin_MT - some companies (Bushmaster, too) setup their own regulations and won't sell uppers with barrels < 16" to anyone without a tax stamp so they can't be held liable for helping faciliate a illegal short barrel build.  If you buy the entire pistol package you are all set.

I don't know hellfire or anything, so this could just be speculation... but what's the chance that he(she?) AOWed the receiver - and THEN decided on what he(she?) would be doing for an upper - hence the quick turnaround from 'talking to YHM' to 'ordering' to 'putting up pics'.

Can't you SBR it and just take the stock off?  It costs 200 bucks either way, and you can do more with an SBR.  Does an SBR really need a stock?

Couch-Commando,

You can take the stock off an SBR any time you like as long as it meets the overall length requirement stated on your Form1.  When I built my SBR I stated the barrel length (7.5") and then added the length of a the upper and made that my overall length.  That way I can take the stock off if I like (don't know why I would).  If that LR300 came from the factory as a "Pistol" you would need a $200 tax stamp just to add the vert grip making it an AOW.  If the LR300 came from the factory as an AOW then the buyer just paid an extra $5 for the transfer but you can never add a shoulder stock as that would bring it out of the AOW class and put it into the SBR class.  The web site shows the short upper kits that come complete with the upper and stock.  The web site says you install the short upper on your own registered lower.  It also says you have to show a copy of your approved Form1 to purchase the short upper.  We would have to ask hellfire57 how he got his 11.5" upper.
