To create a functional look-a-like in semi-auto would be extremely easy to do. However, to create a totally accurate full-auto replica would require original or new manufacture M231 fire control and buffer parts which are non-standard

DPMS sells the newer model buffer assembly. The new M231s have a wire telescoping butt-stock, the temptation to use could get you in the hoosegow toot-sweet

that barrel looks to be preaty long though. get it up to 16 and use the stock all ya want.

Actually, the wire stock of the original XM231 was ditched on production models. The standard M231 has no stock. As to barrel length, its 15.6", so you could concievably build a semi-auto carbine M231. |

I just don't get the point of a carbine without sights or a stock. Spray and pray isn't the best tactic in the world.

No, but that was the tactic supplied with the gun. Sights were dropped in favor of all tracer magazines, and the idea was to walk the spray onto the target. The issue was that to lock the weapon into the firing port sights need to be done away with and with the vision ports so small sights were practically useless anyways. The stock was apparently ruled a liability when handling the weapon inside the vehicle, but I don't know how it could've been. |

The DPMS stock is not the same as the M231 stock. The DPMS unit uses a standard carbine buffer. With the stock collapsed, the buffer tube extends past the stock, unlike the original M231 stock. They do add a certain cool factor though.
