so i have a 16" ar with 5.56 chamber

i was originally thinking about a 20" with 223 wylde

then i ran across 6.8 and 6.5

i am leaning 6.5grendel based on research

i dont know why

lower is done, it time to assemble an upper, but i just cant decide really.

anyone wanna puch me off the ledge?

What is your intended use?  Hunting?  Plinking?  Long or short range?  Do you reload?

I chose 6.5 Grendel for my next build.  I wanted a 16" rifle that was lightweight (sub 7lbs), with a cartridge more suitable for hunting hogs than .223, but could still be used as a medium to long range (200~800y) plinker.

i only bought the lowers because .gov says they are evil.

You really can't go wrong with either.  I chose the 6.5 Grendel but my emphasis was target shooting first then hunting.   I have two 6.5 Grendels a 16" and a 20" plus BRD struck again so there is another 6.5 Grendel barrel on order.

I have a couple of builds in 6.8 . My interest is geared more toward hunting . The 85 to 95 grain TSX loads have performed very well in my rifles , accurate and plenty hard hitting at hunting ranges out to 300 yards or so .

6.5 Grendel made .308 obsolete for me, so I can get very close to .308 performance from the lightweight AR15 receiver set, with half the recoil.

Wind drift is less as well.

Plenty of factory loads from AA, Black Hills, Federal, Hornady, PF, Wolf (Steel case for cheap practice).

Doubles as a great hunting and target cartridge.

hunting  6.5 or 6.8 or big bore
sbr or silenced 300 blk
plinking 7.62x39
target 6.5 or 223
you pretty much have everything covered except varmit but your 223 will do that.  So its a matter of deciding what YOU want.
most of the above mentioned are fine for other things for instance the 7.62x39 or 300 blk are both decent for hunting out to 150 to 200 yards(think your 30-30) and the 6.8 and 6.5 will work for plinking(just more expensive)

thanks all

i did see wolf has cheap grendal ammo for plinking.  which nudges it past the 6.8

not interested in 'big bore'
someday i will get a 45-70 to scratch that itch

You can get a 1000 round case of 7.62x39 for under $220. A similar quantity of 5.56 is considerably more. And 9mm is even cheaper than 7.62x39, if a pistol caliber carbine is something you think you might enjoy.

A 6.5 Grendel rifle, even when buying Wolf blaster ammo, costs much more to feed. And if you don't know what you would use a Grendel for, exactly... why spend a bunch of cash on something only to spend even more cash to go shoot it?

Seriously, the cost of the firearm itself is small potatoes. You have to look at what it costs to go shoot it as well.

Huh. Gunbot failed me. They had stock from sgammo.com on the site, but they didn't show any steel case when sorting by price per round.
