Those with precision 308 AR-platform rifles - what do you use for ammo?  Do you run exclusively match loads or hand loads, or do you run blasting ammo through it too?  168 gr match bullets or heavier?  How is the point of aim affected when dropping to 145-150gr blasting ammo?

My best loads are FGMM 168 and Hornady BTHP 168. I don't reload though. Both rounds are capable of Sub moa from my G2 hunter 16" and Bushmaster build with lilja  20"barrel

When I was shooting .308 Winchester, I exclusively hand loaded for the guns.  Lapua brass, 155gr Lapua Scenar, N150.

It just wasn't competitive with the 6.5mm, 7mm, and .338's at matches, so I moved on.

I reload 150 gr hornady fmj for SHTF close range and hornady 168 gr A-Max to reach out and touch some one.

My own...178 BTHP (.530 bc) with 42.7 grains of 4064. Can stack em on top of each other at 200 yards. They shoot very well out to 1k

FGMM 168gr if I don't have time to reload.

I don't have an ar10, but I've been shooting 308 since I was a kid. It all depends on what I want to do and how far out I'm shooting. If punching paper for groups, match grade or reloads. If I'm just slapping steel, ball ammo. In all honesty, I've been happy just slapping steel at distance with ball ammo when I had a good bolt gun. That gun is long gone :( but now I got a sar8 and it's accurate enough with ball ammo to hit my steel silhouette at 300 yards with irons.

M118 LR and FGMM 175s for me.  My rifles like them both about the same; which one gives the better group really just depends on whether I'm having a good day or not, but I'd give a slight edge to M118LR.

I've not tried any Black Hills 175s yet, and my rifle didn't like the AMAXs (I think they were 178s?) as well as the M118.  I'm sure I could do better if I were to reload, but I barely have time to shoot...

8, 9 and 1000 yard - 175 and 190  Nosler J-4's over Varget (preferred, but hard to find here) or IMR4064, CCI Mag primers, LC cases fully prepe'd - OAL: 2.795 / Vel: 2600 and 2700fps

3, 5 and 600 yard - 155 and 168 Noler J-4's over Varget (preferred, but hard to find here) or IMR4064, CCI Mag primers, FC cases - OAL: 2.795 / Vel: 2750 and 2650fps

DPMS 24" w/ 4-14X Springfield scope.

I can't compete with the bolt guns at the 8, 9, 1000 yard but I hold my own against them in the 3, 5, 600 yard competitions.

My pet load is 42.1 grains of 8208XBR with a BR-2 primer under a 168 grain A-Max. load them as long as you can get them to feed well. Loading them longer that SAAMI made a huge improvement in my DPMS 24" bull barrel rifle. You will always get better results by rolling your own customized to your specific rifle than a factory round.

Huntkng try powder valley for the 190 Noslers, picked up a couple of 1k boxes from them a few weeks ago. I use them in my '06 bolt gun loads.

I shoot mostly 175smk and 178 AMAX. The 168s seem to group a little better close in.

Sierra Matchkings and Hornady AMAX bullets.
IMR 4064 powder
CCI primers

Hornady match and federal GMM are awesome factory loads.

For a factory round my 308 prefers 178 fgmm.   But my reloaded ammo shoots better.

What's the max COAL that usually fits in 7.62 AR mags?  I have some stuff that supposedly came from Camp Perry loaded with 168 SMK's, and they fit but they touch the front of PMAGs.

I'm assuming there's no way you could ever build a load around the 208 A-max and get it to fit.

Mine is right around spec at 2.800" as I recall.

Whatever the windowed mags are that there was a recent thread about here (They are Israeli, that much I remember), mentions that it allows for slightly longer rounds.

Yes.  I haven't tried the Israelis, but KAC mags are the longest I've tried.

!68 grain SMK's in Lapua brass.

Pretty damn long in the Armalite mags, one of the many reasons that I prefer them. I think KAC will allow 2.83 and maybe Larue too, I'd bet Brownells mag will be close to that as well....

Are you seeing any case damage shooting the 175's and 190's at that velocity? My oracle has a 16 inch barrel and when I near max powder on 168 gr A-Max, it chews the crap out of the brass and primers are a little flattened. Had to back off a few grains. Haven't tried anything higher than the 168 grain bullets. Might have to try it to see how it does.

I like 46gr of CFE 223 with 168 Noslers in my 24" LR-308. It registered 2800+ fps from my rifle the other day.
