Tactical Machining used to use 6061 rather than the 7075 they use now and I have had no issues with the lowers I have from them

The 7000 T6 series Aluminum is stronger (more tensile strength) vs. the 6000 T6 series overall.
That is why most quality manufacturers have switched to 7000 series Aluminum... Although, 6000 series Aluminum is just fine and will not make a huge differance. |

Interesting that this thread was posted as I just had a technical discussion about this with Bushmaster concerning their MOE 308 mid length. I was told that the upper and lower are both 7075.
I don't think the CMMG will fail any faster with 6061 but it does seem like the industry standard for higher end rifles is 7075. |

IIRC the ar15 (pre m16) was originally 6061 and they ran into corrosion problems in SE asia, and that is why it was changed to 7075 series Aluminum alloy.....not a strength issue.
