Any new info on this cartridge? Dr69er had a post on it, but I could not find it.  Last I talked to SSK they were about to release a lower priced upper.

The 6.5 MPC seems to me to be the best all around cost effective cartridge for the AR platform, for deer and hogs, if you factor in reloading from 223 brass without fire-forming ( most of us have 1000's of empty cases sitting around).

The 6.5  ballistics, trajectory, and retained energy are pretty impressive, if I recall correctly 1000 lbs of energy out to 300 yards.

That depends on barrel length and bullet.  With the 108gr Lapua Scenar and a 20" barrel you will have over 1000 ft-lbs of energy at 300 yards but it isn't an ideal hunting bullet.  According to SSK the 6.5 MPC shoots the 108 at 2650fps at the muzzle.  In a 16" the MV drops to 2500 and energy is about 1000 ft-lbs at 250 yards.

Assuming you could drive a hunting bullet, like a 100gr Barnes, to 2650fps (and you might not, the Barnes would be longer and might reduce usable powder) the bullet will have about 1000 ft-lbs of energy at 200 yards. Another hunting bullet with a slightly better BC like the 100gr Nosler BT still only has 1022 ft-lbs at 200 yards and is down to 812 ft-lbs at 300 yards.

I like the ballistics of the 6.5MPC but it will have its limitations.  It seems to perform about equal to the 6.5 Grendel with very light for caliber projectiles (95-108gr) but loses ground to the Grendel with longer bullets like the 123gr class high BC bullets.

I can not seem to find the load data, but I was thinking the 100 gr Nosler Partitions was getting closer to 2800 fps out of the 6.5 mpc, and the energy at 300 was closer to 1000 lbs..

That would be a awesome deer and hog round. Here in Alabama I have killed hundreds of deer and hogs, and I have only shot past 200 yards a couple times.

Just a barrel change and your good to go.

I was looking hard at the 25-223, but the 6.5mpc holds its energy at longer ranges much better.

Here are the numbers from SSK's sight:

95gr SSK Solid at 2800fps from a 20" barrel, 110gr Sierra HP at 2731fps from a 20" barrel, and a 120gr SMK at 2400fps from a 20" barrel.  They all lose about 200fps in a 12" barrel, which demonstrates the efficiency of the case in a short barrel.

Also, here is Dr68er's thread about his 6.5 MPC and 6.5 TCU:  6.5 Thread

Here is some of SSK's load data.  It is incomplete and in a strange format (doesn't seem to have any real order to it) but it is what I could find when I was doing research.  There is additional data from a 12" contender with heavier bullets that I didn't include but this is the AR stuff.

108 Lapua..........1680..........22.0..........2500fps  16” AR
107 Sierra..........1680..........22.4..........2525fps  16” AR
107 Sierra..........1680..........22.4..........2650fps  20” AR

95 V Max..........N200..........22.9..........2697fps 20” AR
95 V Max..........N200..........22.9..........2515fps 12” Contender

These are all a 12" M16:

100gr. Sierra HP..........N 130..........21.0..........2138fps
100gr. Sierra HP..........N 130..........22.0..........2205fps
100gr. Sierra HP..........N 130..........22.6..........2250fps

120gr. Match King..........N 130..........19.6..........1946fps
120gr. Match King..........N 130..........20.6..........2033fps

ETA:  One of the things I noticed is that the numbers on the load data sheet from SSK don't seem to match well with the numbers posted on the 6.5 MPC page on the website (the numbers I posted above).  Personally, I would like to see alot more complete load data but haven't found any.

OK Fellas here is the load data direct fom SSK sent to me on the 6.5 MPC round.

I believe 144 grain loads were out of a 16" AR  Bbl.

Stay Tuned...

If you look close that is the document I got my numbers from for the previous post.  I just didn't know how to post a fancy image like that.  Thanks for outting up the whole document.
