Hey guys, long time lurker, haven't posted much. I Know S&W makes a 5.45x39 AR and upper, any other options out there?  I've got an ak-74 i've built, and would like to get an upper for the ar as well. What would you recommend, and where would be the best place to pick one up? I don't need anything fancy. Thanks a ton guys.

Northwest Tactical had some 5.45 LWRCs made up...like everything LWRC they KICK A$$...and they're not cheap but I don't know if they have any left...it was a limited/custom run.

If you don't have the $ to stock up on cheap ammo now, it's not really worth getting an upper/another 5.45.

Stock up.... I have like 6k sitting around in tins... :-)

I think you were talking about this
http://www.northwesttactical.us.com/lwrcim6ak545x39mmupper.aspx

Man a little to rich for my blood, but looks nice

I'd ideally like a mid length upper.  I'm not a fan of the short sight radius on the m4 sytle uppers, and I primarily practice with irons for 3-gun. I don't think I can spend much more than 6 on an upper however.

Well....I've gathered all the following parts to assemble my kickass/cheapass 545 plinker:

Citadel M4 profile 545 barrel (non-chrome lined, carbine gas) and matched bolt.....185
Troy trx extreme tube....150
PWS FSC 556....scavenged from another build I am suppressing
bcm bolt carrier, firing pin and retainer...scavenged as well
daniel defense forged upper and fixed buis....about 215

So, for just over 500 I've got a good little project to work on....I still need some mags though and extra power hammer spring though.

I suggest building your own, if you have the tools and time.

Adams makes super nice stuff from all accounts.  I do not own any myself, though.

Best price I've seen on that kit elsewhere right now is 399...or maybe 379 somewhere I can't remember.  I'd jump on that if I were you.

Unless I'm missing something, it looks like the $399 package includes the BCG and flash hider. Is there a reason to buy another?

Okay this is confusing in the description ...

––M16 carrier with properly staked carrier key
They properly stake a carrier, then don't send it with the kit? ;-)

Never mind I read the product info again, they make it pretty clear,

That's what I'm talking about! IT seems like the complete 5.45 uppers alone cost just as much as a decent (complete) AR.

Midway has the Adams Arms Piston uppers for $689 and there is a $100 coupon floating around out there that looks something like 100810 or something like that

Comes with a magazine and the wolff extra power hammer spring, the coupon does expire on the 22nd though.  Ahhh impulse buying!

I'm still waiting on those uppers at aim... what gives. do you have to call for the pre-order I don't see them listed.
