Well, there's naught in the tacked AR Variants picture threads and a search didn't turn up anything, but since this configuration seems to be gaining momentum it's time for the pictures.

I love th 7.62 round and cannot doubt it's effectiveness at CQ. However, the AR conversion of it is an absolute abomination in my opinion. An excellent upgrade, but not aesthetically pleasing.

Here's mine My Gun Click on a pic to make it bigger, then click on original at the top to blow it up. Double Star lower with the RRA trigger and a Model 1 flat top upper with a 16' free float barrel.

I remember reading about when you got yours. You were shooting those targets at 100 yards if I recall correctly... Which is damn good shooting, I might add. |

I have some .310" 123gr Hornady V-Max loaded with 23.6grs of AA 1680. And some Golden West Brass .311" 124gr FMJs. Been loaded since November since every day I've been off has been windy and/or nasty. I may test today if the rain and wind holds back a little longer.

Totally OT but, I did test some rounds today. Go to my original post and click on My Gun. First up were some 04/66 com block ammo to "dirty" the barrel up. Second up are the Hornady V-Max bullets. These show promise. The last were the Golden West Brass bullets. One thing I did notice was the gun "seemed" to shoot tighter as the barrel warmed up. Most of the "off" shots were from a cold barrel. Plus, I'm not the best shot. The dot was about 7/8ths across. And the cross hairs on the scope completely covered the dot. I know this is a pic thread but I thought some would like to know what to expect from a Model 1 upper.

I need more trigger time. I was shooting 10 shot groups. Can't figure out why a "warm" barrel was shooting better or if it was me "warming" up as I shot. A better target scope might help shrink these groups. It's an old Leopold 3x9 compact scope. All in all, the 7.62x39 Model 1 upper is a blast to shoot.

During the early days of AWB I bought 3 USA drums off the internet and got screwed since none worked out of the bag, I had spent near $600 and was pretty pissed off and at that point there was only three things I could do pass the junk on to the next sucker, eat em or fix em. I really wanted the cheaper ammo alternative so I cut them apart and dicked with them until I cured the tip drop. They will single pull empty on FA, the gun will shoot all three back to back to back. Everybody wants one until they find out the price tag, devices that have 100% up time are never cheap. How much do you make for forty hours work? Plus what ever the drum costs. I will work for ammo. First remove the AR tower and all of the old AK tower but leave the feed guides in place so they can be reattached to the new tower. Cut the botton of the AR tower's flanges off, cut a couple of wedge shaped-flanged pieces of sheet steel, weld to bottom edges of tower to acheive banana shape. Add tensioning spring and correct feed angle of spacer inside tower and tac the tower to the top of the drum and re-attach the feed guides. Now its time to tune it, take the firing pin out of the bolt and re-assemble, load drum and hand rack the action a couple thounsand times. When you feel good about it finish welding and head for the range, if you were thorough about your testing this should be a fun gratifying trip, if its your first one be prepared to cut it apart again at least once. Finally parkerize it and build another. AI AR10-Dan in Ga` Edited: I wanted to add that it was worth every effort in the end. |

Here is my mutt, it started off from a mix of extra parts I had. While it is my least expensive build (KISS), it may be my favorite AR to shoot.
While I like the optic/mount, it is heavy and the carbine does not balance as well as when it just has irons. At first I was using a LMT rear, this obviously would not work with an optic so I ordered a flip up YHM.

16 and 20 inch's I had to put in wolf hammer srings to fire the soviet stuff,no bolt mods and shoots every time the 20" is a complete model1 upper on a grizzly lower with a dpms parts kit.The scope was somthing I bought for my M1A but liked the open sights better so its a bit over kill for this rifle but it looks cool 
the 16 is a model1 barrel and BCG,bought the striped upper and lower from a guy up north from me for $250 last year It also has a dpms lower parts kit. Ive had some feeding issues with the 16 but the more I shoot it the fewer they are but I negleted to mark my mags to keep track if that is the cause. It might be the ammo because when i use good usa stuff its %100. the 20 inch hasent given me any trouble. 
so far Im happy with them. more so than my picture taking ability, I bought a sheist load of wolf 7.62x39 last year so im set for plinken ammo. |
