Anyone Try Hornady's "Light Magnum" .308 No Gas guns Only...?
I'm curious if anyone has tried them, and if they beefed up their spring and reported good-bad results (I'm sure this is with 24 inch barrels)?  I'm wonder if the guts from a DPMS .300 SAUM (spring, buffer) could survive long term use...

No experience?  The ballistics are pretty hot, and I can see why they wouldn't want you to throw it in a gas/auto...still suprised no one has tried it?

It's too brutal on the system...  max pressure curve lasts much longer than regular fodder.

Plus, with the slower burning powder you have way more burning particulates and plasma going down your gas tube into your bolt carrier group... not a good thing at all.

I tried some in my AR10, but didn't know about the no gas gun thing when I did. I didn't have any problems then, or since, though

When I set up a rifle for hunting, I usually buy a bunch of different ammos, and try them for accuracy, and buy a bunch of the most accurate one so I've got it on hand for a while. I remember being disappointed in the Light Magnum, as I had high hopes for it.

My rifle is an AR10 with a Noveske 16" barrel on it.

So it worked-just not with good accuracy...did you feel you and the rifle were beat on at all?

16" barrel and slow powder? Nice fireball I bet.

Anyone tried it in a 24" LR308?

Interesting thoughts on the BCG-wonder if the difference for the particualte's would be better for a standard length gas tube vs. carbine?  I've never heard of this as a problem-b/c very few rifles get full burn time in the short tubes...

I know it would not be hard to slow unlocking time for this round via heavier spring/buffer), or if one had an adjustable gas key (like the FAL) one could back off a few notches.

I've used it in a Rem 742 Carbine 30-06. AR 10 .308 16 in Bbl. M14 18.5 in Bbl. Been using it for over 8 years, no problems. Not the best groups but no difficulty or adverse effects.
