What type of range do these AR mods have? Can they shoot as far as 50 cal sniper rifles (1000-2000 yards)? From What I've read they only go 200-300 yards, that sucks if true. Why such a range difference?

First of all, the three are not even in the same ball park.   The .500 Phantom (in an AR-15) is a higher pressure round that uses special parts from the WSSM ARs to maintain integrity.   It pushes a 300 gr bullet at something like 2500 fps while the Beowulf, at much lower pressures, gets maybe 1700 fps with a 300 gr bullet..

Then there is the .50 BMG.  You've obviously never seen one or you wouldn't have to ask...   It has a *HUGE* case to hold lots of powder, and propels a 668gr bullet to ~3000 fps.

With any of the three, your range is only limited by your skill...   A slow round with a pathetic BC like the .50 Beowulf will make range estimation *critical* past a few hundred yards.  Most people lack that skill, never mind being able to deal with the drastic effects of wind on such a bullet.  That's why many people consider it only effective to 200-300 yards.

Thanks, I'm still learning about gr of bullets and powders/cases. I know what your talking about, like the magazine port on the M82A1. I just had 50 cal in my mind. I keep researching for the rifle I want and can never find a match, always something that eliminats what I find or take intrest in.

eklikwhoa, I think they are awsome too, but I want something that has a range of 600-800 yards and is very accurate at those distances.

If you want that in an AR-15 you should look into the 6.5 Grendel.  65grendel.com

If you're not tied to the AR-15 then you have too many options to even go into here

So then what was the 45-70?

The 499LW, 458 SOCOM and 50 Beowulf all come very close to mimicking the 45-70.

I'd say the 45-70 is pretty potent, would't you?

My best friend and I are always playing tag w/ new gun purchases and when I bought my Beowulf, he went out to get a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 to keep up.  I love my Beowulf, but he's definately got me beat, since his "plinking" load is a 500 grain lead hand-grenade, but if you need to throw a lot of rounds to stop a pissed off boar, I'll stick with the 'Wulf.  Ten rounds in a 30, or 34 in an MGI drum definately makes me feel better than 4+1

Garrett lists their +P 540gr load @ 1550fps & ~2880 ft-lbs.

Alexander Arms lists their 400gr load @ 1800fps & ~2877 ft-lbs.

Now, short of handloading some primer popping loads, I'd say the three big bore babies have got the 45-70 lined up nicely from a semi-auto carbine.

Well, it is not as if they go 300yd and fall straight down like...

The .458s have been shot at 400 yards against "watermelon size targets" (no longer smiling back at the shooter ).  This was in the hands of very skilled "serious young men"

The .510 Whisper, which has external ballistics quite similar to the .500 Phantom, was used to engage the commander's hatch of a MBT at 900+ yards at a military demo a few years ago.  The shooter who supplied us with the 975 gr projectiles shoots MOA at 500 yards routinely.

Ability to shoot these at longer distances is in the skill of the shooter and the quality of the rifle and optics, the cartridges are all quite capable of "going the distance"
