6.8 Remington Upper

Who would be the best manufacturer to go with purchasing a 6.8 upper. I looked at J&T's but don't want a "post ban" configuration. I see Model 1 Sales has em but I've heard too much "con" about their quality. Can the .233 bolt carier be used with a 6.8 bolt head and is it true the .223 mags will feed 6.8? What say all?

I say stay away from any chrome-lined barrels made by E.R. Shaw... at this time.

I was wondering what is the problem with the chrome-lined 6.8mm shaw barrels? I was thinking about ordering a complete 6.8mm upper from Eagle Firearms.

Read the 2nd link provided 2 posts up.
There is discussion in there about bore sizes and throats.
Also note that this has only shown a problem with SSA's Extreme bullet loads.
Also note in the first link above that Art from SSA has just announced today that they are lowering the pressure/velocity of their extreme bullet load to solve these problems.
The Shaw barrel will be fine if you only need a standard grade barrel.
If you want something higher end or custom, drop me a line.

I am not looking for anything fancy. Just a standard grade chromed-lined 6.8mm barrel. I hope there isn't a quality problem with the shaw chromed-lined 6.8mm barrel. hinking.gif

Shaw builds standard grade barrels and then sends them out to be chrome lined.
You will likely be just fine.
Just stay away from the SSA Extreme ammo that's currently available.
In a few more weeks, the lower powered stuff should be available.

What are the SSA Extreme ammo? I was looking at just firing the factory Remington 6.8mm SPC. Will that be okay?

These would be fine:
Remington FMJ
Remington Matchking
Remington Holpwpoint
SSA MatchKing Bullet
SSA Pro Hunter Bullet
Hornady Vmax
Hornady Hollowpoint

This is the one to be careful of right now:
SSA Extreme

BTW, I have a chromed Shaw barrel that shoots in the .3XX" @ 100yds. It has flattened primers at only 25gr of H322. I have authorization to return for refund and I will. da-da-damn.

DPMS 6.8 upper has worked just fine for the last 2 months. Remington express and SSA x-treme rounds have cycled well through it. using a pri 25rnd magazine.

I have never done an ARFCOM group buy.
The last group buys were through the 6.8 SPC yahoo group.
Maybe I will try to do one around March or April once I get all settled in to my new shop and get caught up on my current backlog of orders.
There is feedback from most of the buyers on the last couple 6.8 group buys.

How are the Barret uppers? I have a friend who is going to get one as he thinks it has to be the best or Barrets name would not be on it.
