VLDs would be a no go in a .308 Autoloader, unless you want to load each round individually by hand.
There are Long Range / National Match folks that shoot these bullets religiously. Of course they are also primarily using bolts guns, but some do single load an AR with the use of a “Bob Sled”.
Bob SledIMHO, unless you are going for the longer distances (600-1000 yds) then the benefits that you would get from a VLD are probably pretty limited. You should have no problem using the 168 grain SMK (Sierra Match Kings) out to 300 yds, and you can go to the 175 grain SMK for 300-600 yds. Of course there are people that will shoot both rounds out to 1000 yds. Not sure exactly what your application is, but that would obviously dictate which round would be best.
Not sure if you are familiar with National Match Forums.
National Match ForumsThis is a similar Forum for Long Range / National Match Shooters. If you don’t get the answers you are looking for here, you might want to try there, you should have no problem finding people shooting VLDs. If you are into Long Range Shooting it is a great place for info.
Good Luck,
