The pic of the .458 SOCOM needs a Barnes 300gr X Spitzer bullet on it.....which is the bullet the cartridge was designed around.  That pic makes the OAL look way short.

Also, you can fit just as many .458 SOCOM into a .30 round mag as you can the .499 LW or the .50 B. They are roughly the same OD in the body.  In my GI 30s I can fit 11 .458 SOCOMs comfortably and MAYBE a 12th if I really wanted to force the issue, which I do not.

LWRC has proprietary steel mags for the .499. The mags were one massive source of trouble during development and have only been resolved this year. Running them out of STANAGs is OK for recreational shooting but the mags were one of the main bugbears during the development process. Paul would kill me if I ran a .499 out a USGI mag.
