my question exactly. If there is such a thing. Would I be able to just swap barrels and keep my handguards/hardware?

Handgaurds, no. Hardware, depends on what exactly you mean.

Yes. All you would have to do to convert a 5.56 upper to 6.8 is install a new barrel and bolt. |

i wouldn't trust a model 1 bolt...
wait until better companies come out with SS, and chrome barrels |
