I'm looking at putting a Vltor A5 buffer kit on my 14.5" BCM Mid length. As I'm not sure exactly what the gas port size is on this barrel, I'm wondering if the A5 will function. The standard buffer in the kit is a 5.2 oz and I can either go up or down in weight from there. The ultimate goal is to decrease the recoil impulse while maintaining 100% reliability with most 5.56 & .223 ammo ( don't plan on using any PMC, Tula, Wolf ammo).  Anyone running a similar setup and is it working well?  Thanks in advance for the help/advice/input.

I run the A5 on my 20" bcm upper and it short strokes tula occasionally but everything else runs fine.

Sorry for the bad news.....

IIRC,, the Vltor A5 system is the cats ass for all gas/barrel length combos EXCEPT for the 14.5 midlength.   I'm sure you can go down in buffer weight to help, but I can't say it'll work well.

I've run the A5 on both 14.5 carbine (Colt, DD, BCM,LMT) and midlength (FN, Spikes, DD)  systems without an issue.

Interesting. I have never heard anything like this.
Considering the A5 was designed to give rifle length (and thus rifle length gas systems) an adjustable stock, I couldn't imagine why it would find middies a challenge.

IIRC Vltor has a special buffer for the A5 with midlength gas 14.5" barrels.

I have run my A5 with both the 14.5'' carbine and mid-length barrels, and currently have it on a 16'' mid-length.
No worries with any of them.

I run the A5 on a BCM 14.5 mid length with a Surefire 556 muzzle brake and it's smooth as silk. No recoil whatsoever. I don't shoot steel case ammo so can't tell Cant' go wrong with this setup. Enjoy!
