What is you budget? The most barrel I'm probably ever going to have again is 18", and that is what I just went to after dumping my 24" heavy. Maybe a 20" in a grendel. About all I've lost is 2 1/2 lbs and 50-75 yards of the end of my supersonic flight. I went with a Mark 12 DPMS barrel because I couldn't resist trying it for $160, and after reading some range reports. Higher end like BCM SS410 or Rainier ultra match are great. The 18" barrels can be had in a rifle length too, that way all you need is the barrel and maybe a gas block to switch.

I would like to stay around $200 range. But honestly I don't know if that is too underbudget. I hear alot about Noveske but those are expensive. Should I stay with a 1/9 twist or move up to 1/8? I want a great shooting rifle in the end. thanks

BCM 16" SS410.
300 dollars, PLENTY accurate and much much lighter than your current setup. |

Don't forget checking the Equipment Exchange (EE), especially if you're on a tight budget.

JSE surplus has some killer deals, check them out. I also hear good things about the Rainier Arms "Select" barrel. Its a 16" stainless, and that is plenty of barrel for 300 yards easily. Don't forget to budget a low pro gas block and a carbine length gas tube if you go that route too. What hand guard is on there now?

As long as the Troy is a free float, you can go with a 16-18" carbine length or mid length with a lo pro gas block and the right gas tube. Have you considered the gas block yet, or are you picking the barrel and getting the gas block to accommodate.
