I have a dpms sportical and am looking to replace the front hand guard. In your guys opinion(s) what is the best one and what length would you suggest.

oh jeez.  thats a broad question.

I recommend a customizable rail.

Troy TRX Extreme
Troy VTAC Extreme - have and love
Samson EVO
VLTOR CASV - have and love

those are my current favorites.  Light, sturdy, option to put rails where you want them and no cheesegrater where you don't need it.

Love mine  I think KAC is selling "blems" at their online store for $150 now, even cheaper if you use the EE.

standard, plastic.  Add rails as needed.

Larue.  And on a DPMS sportical I'd get the carbine length unless you plan on changing
the gas block.  I think its to big for a rail to go over.

Some really nice suggestions so far   ––––      I'll throw in a low buck favorite ––-i really like Magpul's MOE stuff .    Your DPMS was designed to be lightweight and the MOE stuff will not add any weight to it at all.   It looks pretty slick and you can install a buttstock , pistol grip and the handguards for around 150 bucks for all .

They have rudimentary slots for attaching things,  but if you really need a hardcore rail system –––– stuff from VLTOR, Troy and Larue is the place to go ––-

their stuff is all over this website in plenty of pic threads, but here is mine with an ACS buttstock, and MOE hand guards pistol grip and mags

This pic is actually a carbon copy of your rifle except with Green MOE stuff  (CTR stock ) - forgive the FDE MBUS and mag –– LOL.    I did eventually replace the stock bolt with a BCM bolt on this rifle though

Not enough DD love! I really like the Troy VTAC as well, but the DD Lite 12" on my new middy is a pretty awesome rail.  Would highly recommend it to anybody.

Troy's TRX is getting a lot of praise

DD LITE is the strongest and IMHO best if you want 4 solid rails. That said I sold off all 4 of my DD LITE rails and now have 4 Troy TRX Extreme's. I did not really need all that rail space (most people don't) and love the feel of the TRX. The TRX does not have the most solid attachment system but is good enough for me.

DD; no barrel nut indexing required.

Your Sportical has the shaved front FSB right?

My recommendation is  to get a low profile gas block to swap out the railed DPMS one.  Then get a Daniel Defense in a longer flavor (ie 9-11") and run that over the low profile gas block.  Run a set of Magpul MBUS front and rear and call it a day.

Wow, this is really a broad question....

OP, what do you want out of it?  Light weight, FF, cheap, expensive, tough, railed, longer?

For me, the best handguard is the DD LITE or RIS II. I don't know what the best would be for you.

DPMS FF tube for FF on a low budget that will last the life of the rifle.

forgot to add, on the Sporty i posted earlier, i did have a regular fixed FSB installed too,  (shouldn't have anything to do with handguard installation tho)
