Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first post so hopefully of some value to all. As a shooter of 556 and 308 black rifles the expense of ammo has been beating on me like all the rest of you. I took a shot (no pun intended) on a Umarex-manufactured, Colt-licensed 22 clone. Let's not discuss the rifle itself - you've all heard the (ahem) mixed reviews.

However, I wanted to sizzle this rifle up a bit and found MFI. Michael Frost from MFI has been fantastic to work with. He didn't have anything stock for this particular gun but very quickly banged out a couple of different adapters which he probably now has in stock for the masses. Google for his site as I don't want to post links without being an advertiser.

In any case, the overview is that fit and finish is fantastic. The adapter screws right in place of the Colt flash hider and then the can slips right over and keys into a groove in the end of the adapter. Twist tight some hidden hex screws and the whole package is locked and ready to roll. Interestingly, the 22LR with the fake can now shoots at the same volume as a 556 with a real can. I slapped on my eotech for a better sight than what came from the factory (sloppy iron sights) and now have a pretty nifty practice platform.

Here are pix:

Barrel as is from factory:

Barrel with flash hider removed and the pieces (left to right, stock birdcage hider, short adapter, long adapter, can):

Barrel with short adapter attached:

Can mounted on short adapter (you can see the can is 90 degrees rotated to accomodate the fit with the bayonet mount - it's that close to the front sight):

EDIT: all this time online and no comments on what's wrong with this picture? Hmmm... I was hoping for at least a lively debate about it - LOL.

Why the rotated handguards? Seen it before but forget the reasoning. Mirage?
