I've got a Del-Ton A2 mid length and I get a fair amount of carbon fouling under the handguards and near the front sight post. How much is too much? I'm not worried about cleanliness but am curious if there is a leak at the FSB.

Thanks.

Does the rifle run properly?

Yes your FSB/gas block is leaking. I would seriously look at fixing the problem before it becomes a bigger problem down the road. Delton should repair/replace the FSB for you under warranty.

Never fired an M16/AR15 that didn't do this.

The leak will probably fill with carbon and stop leaking soon.

I had issued rifles and my own do the same.  Worked fine.  This is not an engine oil leak.

If it functions fine, I wouldn't bother with it.  Mine has a little bit of residue under the hand guard.  That's how I remember which hand guard is the upper versus the lower.
