I need some input on a good comp....Wich one works best without being big and gawdy ?  I like the VLTOR VT-1 ....does it work as a brake at all? The description says it's a flash hider/comp.....I'm wondering if it does both a little or one function better than the other, etc...  thanks folks

You should look at a company called MICOR.  I saw one in Special Weapons last week that looks mean, and it has ports or grooves milled in that match up with the twist rate of your rifle.  Check em out.

Does the Blackout reduce any muzzle rise or increase it?

It's a dedicated flash suppressor & nothing else.

FH's and comps are two distinctly different devices with two distictly different objectives.  No device can effectively achieve both simultaneously.  The best of both worlds is porbably a good quality can, but that might be considered "big and gawdy" to some.  YMMV.

PWS has links to a video comparison on their site if I'm not mistaken.  I can't access videos here at work or I'd provide a direct link...

I just got a look at the surefire FA556K on a SW M&P 15 Vikings Tactic edition, i liked how it looked, have not shot with one attached yet.  Did go ahead and purchase one from Larue Tactical, just to try it out.  Worth a try.

Miculek has one of the best comps I have ever used I am not sure about flash hiders but the miculek comp does not seem to put out that much flash even at night..
