Is this legit?

It is marked "M4" above the gas tube hole.

I did come from Brownells, so I would assume it is what they say it is.

Is their a proof mark by the front of the ejection port?  Should look like a C within a square, if that's there than it's definately Colt.

No sir.

The only mark is the "M4" above the port.

The proof marks will only be present on receivers that where sold as part of a complete firearm.  They will not be present on a receiver sold as part of an upper conversion, or as just a component, as in the OP's case.

just looked at my new 6721 has c and keyhole stamped to the rear of eject port so maybe they stamp in diff. loactions
