I am no expert, but I do own a rifle length yhm rail. I chose not to put one on and haven't noticed any negative effects.... I don't see end caps on any of the higher end rails such as Larue or Daniel Defense.
I think it is purely an aesthetic thing |

I have never met anyone who ever had a problem with sticks and twigs getting stuck in the open end of their forearm. It seems a solution to a non-existent problem.

I've got an end cap and they seem pretty light. You could always unscrew it and "carefully" cut it into two pieces if you later wanted to remove it.

I have one on the one I have. If removing it is an issue get the Daniel Defence Omega railed forearm. Bill |

I have the cap on my YHMs and it is removable. It just threads in there no problem. I put mine on for no practical reason .....just looks. To me thats about all its good for anyway. But it does clear the perm. phantom FH on the end of my barrel. no need to remove the FH to take the handguard off with the end cap in place. A larger dia. FA or MB may present a problem.

But there are two choices for end caps. Different inside diameters.

How do you guys like the YHM rails? My builder uses the ltwt free float - the one with huge holes between the rails.

Took a look at the DD Omega Rail FF.
How does that bolt onto the receiver and is the other end open like a typ. FF? The photos on the site shows an M4 handguard cap between the FSB and the Rail. You can see this on the photos from the DD site: http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=109 |

There is nothing I want hanging on the front of my gum, but YMMV. Their tubes do everything I ask them to do. Very good, possibly the best, value for your money. Bill |

if it helps, i bought one and did not get the cap. i have the standard fsb so i wouldnt see most of it anyway. as mentioned already, most other FF rails dont have caps
purely for looks when i get my upper back from adco i can post a pic, but by then it would be too late for you to decide |

The end cap makes for a cleaner, more professional looking installation.
If you are using a standard front sight tower and a permanenet muzzle brake the end cap isn't coming off no matter what size brake you use unless you cut it in two pieces using a Dremel or Foredom tool and a heavy duty cut-off wheel. |
