Im torn between a 14.5 with attached brake and carbine gas system and a 16in with same break and midlength gas system.  Can I please get a few pics with side by side comparisons

there is no reason to be torn.  

first, there isn't that much difference in velocity between the two.  
second, you can get a 14.7" with a midlength gas system from several vendors.
third, well, there is no third.

in summary: get exactly what you want -- someone makes it.

+1. Seriously, just flip a coin and get it over with or go with the 16". At least you can swap out flashhiders if you so choose to at some point and you don't have to have the flash hider pinned on so you can add or remove any rail system you want.

Unless you can you can get a smoking deal on a 14.7" (of 14.5") just get the 16". While the difference in muzzle velocity is slight between the 2, more velocity if always better.
