I too am Very curious what the difference is in these...other than cost obviously.

RAS locks up tighter and is lighter. The MI is a nice product but is still not a RAS.
(I own both) Editted to add that the RAS is slimmer. |

The RAS has a metal tab on the muzzle end that helps keep it tight. It also has a metal clamp secured with a screw, that grabs onto the barrel nut to keep it from moving around.
The RAS is slightly thinner. The MI 17 Gen II is 9.9 ounces, the RAS is 11.3 ounces. The MI will accept the KAC rail panels an VFG. Both top rails line up with the upper receiver. Both have rails that are to the 1913 picatinny spec. Both will work for most users. I would not mount an optic on either, but it would work. I've had both, I like both. I sold my RAS to buy a LaRue FF. And I now run a MI 17 on one of my carbines. |
