found some larger pictures on this dealer: http://www.umlautarms.com/store/Magpul/MAG-UBR.htm
looks pretty sweet, prolly functions pretty sweet too ;) |
If its anywhere near the quality of the CTR, I figure it will be outstanding. My understanding is that since the UBR replaces the M93, it should be bombproof and very high quality.
Its one of the items on the Stick wishlist. |
Early October. Looks sweet! |
That looks like the CTR? |
Nope, UBR. |
My dealer price sheet says the UBR is scheduled to be released "Mid 2006". Since "Mid 2006" is already here, it wouldn't surprise me if we don't see it until late Q3. It will be worth the wait.
So what makes it different from what Stickman posted about the CTR? |
+1 on that, Im holding off on the CTR for now, my next stock will be the UBR for sure. |
The UBR is the replacement for the M93 series, which should put it at the top of the pile for heavy duty bashing stocks. |
Yeah I do see the design differences. Subtle, but unique. I guess I'm going to wait and see the price differences. CTR though jumped in the lead for me atm. Waiting on your HANDS ON review. |
I'm pretty sure the UBR will be made of aluminum, not the synthetic the CTR and M93's are made of.
Simply, the stocks themselves will be very similar but the main difference is, the CTR is designed to work with your existing mil-spec buffer tube (like the Vltor and SOPMOD Cranes stocks do). The UBR, like the M93 before it, has it's own proprietary buffer tube that allows you to maintain a consistent cheek weld regardless of what position the stock is in. Basically the cheek-weld of a fixed stock with the adjustability of a collapsible. |
UBR will be around twice the price of a CTR so if you dont want to pay that then get the CTR. |
Ouch!!!! While it looks nice, I'm thinking I'll pass until I see the final price. |
The CTR is $97. If the UBR is twice the price, it is still basically the same price as the M93B. Folks that are willing to pay the going rate for the M93B shouldn't have any problem ponying up for the UBR, IMHO. That's not to say the UBR is INEXPENSIVE, just that it isn't any worse than Magpul's current offering. The UBR may end up less expensive than the M93B, seeing as how each M93B is basically hand assembled and tested - the UBR is being designed for ease of manufacture, among many other things. ETA: Magpul's site lists the in-stock date for the UBR as 8/15/06, which may be wishful thinking based on an optimistic production schedule, but it's there FWIW... |
$195 would be twice the CTR price. It would also still be less than the LMT SOPMOD stock. I think we will see prices just under that. Realise dealer cost for the stocks is significantly less so there will be further discounts.
Is there an estimated release date, or did this set it back a bit?
What about a Strike Plate for smashing in skulls.... err I mean to break windows incase of emergency? Thats one of the features I liked about the the M93B.

Can the Magpul guy (Rich?) tell us what the weight difference is going to be between the M93 and the UBR? The M93 is pretty beefy, very strong and solid. How comparable is the UBR to the M93 for weight/abuse? |
I like it!
That is a good thing as long as you keep it smaller than the M93 lock mech. I have big hands and the M93 lock/lever mech bites the fleshy part of my hand between my thumb and index finger in short LOP positions. |
Man, why do I get the feeling that this stock is going to lead to another build....
That is one sweet looking stock. On my list for sure. But, just out of curiosity, does anybody know if the 93B stocks will still be available after the UBRs release?
Once current inventory is gone, the M93B will be history. The UBR is the direct replacement for the M93B. |
So will there be an angled doohicky attachment (like the SOPMOD and Vltor stocks)?
I think that there is a black one in my future... |
No. Storage is inside the hollow section in the tail, not hanging off the sides. |
As far as storage goes, I have seen pictures from Magpul of small covers or doors that enclose the open triangular area. That is where your storage will be.
MadDog |
thats nice.... I think thats gonna replace my Vltor. the way you can make it look "solid" is really nice.
so it mounds on a standard M4 buffer tube? and does it have an attatchment point for a single point sling? |
is it gonna come with the tube? |
I actually like the angled dohicky, it fits my face. I don't use it for storage. |
What buffer and spring is to be used with the entry length extension?
Simon |
hell yea. I especially like the way that in the closed position, withe the triangles in place it looks like a solid, fixed stock MORE PICS, ESPECIALLY MOUNTED ON A RIFLE, NOW!!!!! |
Carbine Buffer and Spring |
If you look carefully at the second gen UBR renderings the strike plate is built into the tail loop and angles down to cover the base. |
The cheek riser on the UBR is replaceable with different height and shaped versions. |
