I'm going to ADCO on Saturday and hopefully Steve will be able to install a FF rail on my LMT.  I am torn between the Troy and the Daniel Defense.  I'm going with one that extends past the carbine FSB.  Any input would be great.  The DD is considerably more so I want to know if it is really worth it.  This is NOT a duty gun, personal defense/SHTF/range gun.

Thanks!

I have handled both and ended up buying the DD. In fact I own three and they are all top quality. The Troy is a nice system also but IMO the DD is just better. I like the way it feels especially with KAC panels. Its lightness is a big + too.

What type of gun is it?

It is a LMT M4.

Does the DD require removal of the FSB to install?

And I guess my other question would be do I really need a FF rail?  I'm not gonna use a bipod and my sling will be a single point so the only force on the rail will be my hand.  I'm thinking of going with the MI extended carbine at this point.

I would ditch both and get the LaRue.

But all are quality rail systems.

No, it is a 16" with a screw on Vortex.

What does the Larue offer, other than wieght and that locking mech, that DD does not offer? The only benifit that I have heard of is the locking mech, but seeing the way that a DD is put on especially when Steve puts it together, There is a very minimal chance of the DD loosening, maybe say if its dropped of a 300 foot cliff. IMO the DD is a better rail IMO!

Then the DD should be no problem for ADCO to put on.

I prefer the steel barrel nut, and the locking mechanism.  Having had a FF move on me (even with loctite) I understand and desire the concept of an anti-rotation device.

Thanks for all the help guys.  I went in yesterday and looked at them both.  I liked them both and decided to go with the Troy for less money.  I used the $100 difference to buy a TD grip, biglatch, LULA and ammo.  I'm really happy so far.

He had one of the NEW DD rails in, but it was more money still (but really tempting).  Great guy to deal with, I dropped off my rifle and went to lunch.  It was done when I got back.  I'll be visiting ADCO more often now.
