Has anyone seen a .17 cal.  upper?  I know there are several flavors in .22 but I'm yet to see an upper in the .17 cartridge and thought it might be a nice addition to the collection.

I was wondering the same thing 17 hmr would be cool for shooting varmints and still being able to ahve a ar15 set up

I have a .17hmr, but it is a single shot NEF. It shoots 1moa, but either it, or I (or both) cannot do any better.

At $9 per 50 rds, a .17hmr AR-15 would cost more to shoot than the AR-15 with .223 Wolf.

I built a .17 HMR upper carbine and rifle upper. They are great to shoot but due to the ammo's price it is definitely not for plinking or blasting -- more for varmint or target shooting. The .17 HMR really shines in a good bolt action -- my upper will only do an inch at 100 yards at best. Since the 22 magnum works in the same type of setup I did 22 magnum barrels for both the carbine and rifle upper and they shoot great in that caliber and ammo can be found cheaper but still it's not a plinker or blaster. CCI ammo in either caliber is in the $9 range here but the Winchester Dynapoints in 22 magnum are down around $6 a box. There are others here at ARFCOM that are building uppers in .17 HMR and maybe they will come by and put in their 2 cents on having an upper in that chambering. I did it because I wanted something different to work on.

The .17 Mach2 can be bought in an AR upper from Oly and is a bit cheaper than the HMR and out to around 125 yards shoots almost as flat.

Take a look in the Rimfire section.

If you must have a .17 upper then take a look at this chart.

Check the 17grain HMR and the 17grain Mach2 out to 125 yards. The only real difference is the velocities. The big difference is the Mach2 costs about half the price of the HMR and there is a factory made upper available for it right now!

Sure seems like there should be more than one manufacturer for that upper.  I can't believe so few people are interested in a round like the Mach 2.  The Oly upper looks ok,  price is just a touch high but bareable.  Has anyone found anyplace with anything similar.

I think 17 HMR would be leagal in "the peoples republic of cali-f-ya"  as it is a rimfire
