I toyed with the idea, but when I look at pictures of the LW conversion, it looks like the piston assembly rides higher than the MGI handguards will allow.  It would likely require some frankenstein work.  I still haven't even shot my MGI upper.  For a piston setup, I think I'm going to just buy a dedicated upper.

My theory is that he was trying to save as much weight as possible vs the M14. It is interesting to note that everything he did afterwards (AR180, Stoner 63) was piston driven.
