Is the gas hole in a bbl have any special alignment? In other words, is it normally aligned with a groove or is it  just drilled in any position. On a friends bbl, the hole is on a land, and hes having trouble with mass quantities of copper shearing off the bullet and actually filling up his gas port and blocking it. He had to take off the gas block and actually dremel the copper out yesterday. I've looked at some bbl's before, and can't remember whether the hole always had any specific alignment or not. Thanks. The gas port is not drilled in relation to the rifling. The barrel extension is torqued onto the barrel, then the barrel assembly is placed in a drilling jig which indexes off the barrel extension's pin. The only measurement used when drilling the gas port is the distance back from the muzzle. Depending on where the barrel extension aligns, the gas port could come out anywhere on the circumference of the barrel, be it groove or land.
