I looking at piling up some $$$$ to put together a quality Varmint/Target AR for popping prairie dogs and paper at medium to longer ranges.  Weight and length aren't really a major concern, but I'd like to maximize the accuracy and range while minimizing my costs.

I'm considering everything from a complete Bushmaster or RRA Varmint gun to one of MSTN's SuperSam uppers.  I'd like the low recoil of the .223, but an AR10 in 243 or 260 is damn tempting as well.

Just looking for feedback on barrel length, triggers, cost effectiveness, etc.

The 24" DPMS super bull seems to be a good rifle for printing tinny little groups.  Gets as long as a barrel as you can to maximize velocity.

I beleive RRA makes a 24" varmint barrel in 1:12 twist if you are going to be shooting 40gr nosler ballistic tips HOT

I live in South Dakota where i have the ultimate in dog shooting.  Currently i have 2 AR's set up in 223 that i use for dogs.  One is using the bushmasters stainless steel varmint upper and the other is a stainless steel RRA varmint upper.  They will both shoot dogs consistantly out to 700 yards with good optics on them.  My bushmasters is a 1/9 and the rra is a 1/8.  Both shoot 40 and 50 grain sierra blitzkings better than i can shoot them.  I mostly use the 50's for wind bucking abilities.  My next project is going to be an upper in 6mm ppc for dog shooting.  I can't wait till it gets here.  As far as accuracy goes........i haven't seen any real difference between either upper or barrel configuration that would matter.  The bushmaster is a 24" barrel and the rra is a 22" barrel.  I'd highly recommed either manufature.  Happy shooting.

This is my WOA 20" 1-7 twist. I am not done with my load for this yet but this is what I have so far. I got this from JTAC. Very good to deal with. With the exception of Gerogia Precision I have always had good luck with most of the current dealers on here. Even if it just calling them and talking to them, they have always been helpful.
