I need a lightweight upper for my wife's AR. The standard 20" A2 is too heavy for her. I am thinking of a 16" M4 or maybe a fluted 16 - 20" barrel with a good comp. Any suggestions for the barrel profile and comp.

Colt lightweight profiled barrel with A2 FS would be my pick. Most of the muzzle jump in an AR is reciprocating mass anyway.

20in. pencil bbl. or complete upper would fit the bill.
I have 2 an they are lighter than my fluted 16 and mid/wt. midlength.
Longer sight plane and softer recoil pulse.

Bushy lightweight 16" w/ y comp muzzle break, they are louder than a flash hider but they work very well for their intended purpose.

If you get a collapsible stock to adjust the LOP for her, and maybe a vertical foregrip, she can lean into the gun and it won't hardly recoil at all.

Colt 6520 Upper would be a good choice, available in the EE from Gundealer3 a.k.a Police Supply

I guess I am leaning toward the 20" "pencil" barrel also. Seems like JT has that profile. I have heard good things about the Y Comp. I wonder how it compares to the Miculek or Smith comp.

Barrel, Bushmaster superlight 16". Try it with the standard A2 flash hider before you sink lots of money into a comp that may make it to loud.

Not too concerned with the noise as my wife is an experienced 3 gun shooter. The 20" HB is too heavy for her. Just need a good comp to reduce the muzzle rise with the light barrel.

I suggest the ultrlight profile 16" with collapsable stock as well.  You want the fornt end as light as possible.

Check out the CDNN M16 uppers, they are the pencil barrel 20", and are very light weight.  If you mainly shoot 55 grain, they are a great buy.

+1.  I did this and put it on a LMT lower with a Colt CAR stock and let me tell you, that is one light and handy setup.  Quick to mount, and easy to manhandle (or womanhandle as the case may be).  Only negative factor is how quickly the barrel heats up.  But, it cools quick too.

What is the cost of an 18" LW upper with comp? I went to your website, but could not find pictures.

Any thoughts on the Cavalry Arms 20" upper? Seems to have a lightweight barrel profile.

You could try an Mgi Qcb and an abs cf barrel with those you can have a 5 pound rifle.
