Neither one are meant to be match barrels. I prefer the light weight of the Govt profile. It handles great.

The use of an A-1 buttstock might help in the handling also, did for me.

I have a Bushy gov't bbl on my flattop, and it is more accurate than me. I held a lot of HBARs in the funshop before I decided to put my AR15 together myself. They were too front heavy, so I went with the lighter weight barrel.
Unless you're a bechrest shooter there probably isn't a phenomenal difference anyway. |

The HBAR is no more accurate than the Govt profile. They are both made from the same barrel blanks. The HBAR, as you may know, will not heat up as fast, and the cooler the barrel, the longer you maintain your best accuracy potential. But if you are trying to build a handy, 20" gun, the Govt barrel is the way to go. The HBAR may be better for a bench or target gun, but if thats the case, I'd probably recommend a real target barrel.
I've got a Colt Govt barrel on my A4, new-argirl has a Bushmaster 1/7 Govt profile barrel on her A4. Both are much easier to handle than a 20" HBAR. |

Hmm. An industry partner here has 1/7 Bushmaster Gov't 20" barrels for sale. Now you have me thinking of one of these, too. If mounting scopes is a secondary issue and I want a lightweight, usable, reasonable accurate rifle out to 250 yards, what's my best choice for an upper receiver? I can get a DPMS A1-E3 reasonably priced. But I can get a CMT A3 for about the same.

I have a BM Gov't profile 20" 1/7 twist with a DD12.0 FF rail upper. The DD rail is nice and light, the rifle balances beautifuly, HBARs seem too front heavy to me. Lumpy, who makes that sling? That's all my A4gery is missing. Thanks. |

Definately the Gov't profile.
A 20" HBAR gets VERY heavy after you pack it around awhile. My attitude is that if I'm gonna pack a gun as heavy as an M1A or an M1 Garand, it's not going to be in .223 caliber, it'll be a .308. |
