What is the differnce between RRA Bushy DPMS tubs and the mil-spec tubes like Vltor, LMT, and colt. I know they are different sizes but how so?

The outside diameter is different. I have a Bushmaster carbine that had the Bushmaster buffer tube. I replaced it with a Vltor stock and tube. If I remember right, I think the Vltor stock would not fit onto the Bushmaster tube. Either way, Vltor is milspec, Bushmaster, and some other companies are not.
