Daniel Defense 9.5 FSP?

Evening all,

I was wondering, does Daniel Defense still make the 9.5 FSP? I had read somewhere the 9.5 was discontinued, does that include the FSP series?

I'm new to the DD RASes and was reading about the 9.5 FSP over IN THIS THREAD

Really like it, wondering if it's still around.

Thanks chaps.

I was thinking of either the set-up you posted h8mtv OR the DD 12.0 on a M4, lo-pr- GB and a Troy flip-up front. Tough to decide.

Edited to add: VERY nice set-up h8mtv. I have a very similar lower that I'm looking to top off, it's a Fulton lower with ACE entry on a KAC single point and TD grip. I also have an Ambi0catch and an ambi safety.

They improved the design of the 9.5 FSP about 6 months ago. The older 9.5 FSP had a large gap between the rail at 12 o'clock and the front sight post, exposing the gas tube. The newer 9.5 FSP's have very little space between the 12 o'clock rail and the front sight post. Here are some updated pics.....2 days after I took these pics the new Troy dual apeture BUIS and the Magpul trigger guard arrived

Aw come on! I haven't said a thing about your rails in, what, 2 days?

But I am starting to put some ladder rails on the bottom, because I don't use bipods and just rest the rifle on packs, tree trunks or cinder blocks, I don't want my rails to get messed up

Yeah, but the rail covers are purdy too....I reckon you don't want to scuff them up....so you better have your "Going to the range" covers and your "Posting on Arfcom covers"

Hey, what do you fellas think of the TROY RAS? It seems like the nearly continous rail that it forms with a flat top is a decent advantage over the DD. Opinions?

I do have a rifle where the HK sling hook keeps rubbing on the muzzle side rail it not only took the finish off, but started to round off the edge

The ladder type rail covers come in very handy

I think Mongo'd better come in and give you his first hand account on the Troy handguards, but I'd say I will stick to KAC, DD, LaRue, SF and LMT.

I actually switched my stock to a Cav Arms coyote brown M4 stock today.

Slightly OT question for MSTN... On all these beautiful shorty barrels you build for your customers, are they typically HBAR or A2 profile?

YEARS AGO, THEY WERE M4 PROFILE, 0.625" UNDER THE HANDGUARDS. FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS OR SO, THEY HAVE BEEN 0.750".

THIS SLIGHT ADDITION IN WEIGHT GIVES SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DURABILITY AND RIGIDITY.

I can't say enough good about LMT shorty uppers. I have been in the M16 game for a long time and usually shorites are problem rifles. LMT has got it figured out. I have sold a number of them and not one problem, even on full auto. Accuracy is excellent for a chome lined barrel. The shorty pictured above shoots around 1.5" at 100 with GI SS109. I figure 100-150 is max effective range for barrels in this length so the LMTs are more than good to go, and not tinkering with gas port sizes, timing etc. Just drop them on and go.

The FSP was chosen as it adds more real estate on the rail for accessories. Usually this rifle sports a Surefire M900 and an IR laser.

I HAVE BUILT 10.5" UPPERS LIKE YOURS A COUPLE OF TIMES FOR CONTRACTORS WITH THE KAC M4 QD COMP, FOR USE WITH THE KAC M4 QD SOUND SUPPRESSOR. NOT HAVING REGULAR ACCESS TO ONE MYSELF, I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE 9.5 FSP FOREND AND THE SUPPRESSOR ITSELF.

IF YOU USE THE KAC M4 QD COMP SHIM KIT, DO YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE TO INSTALL THE SUPPRESSOR? OR DO YOU NEED TO USE A CRUSH WASHER TO GIVE YOU MORE STAND-OFF?

I do not use crush washers on guns that are getting a can, I use peel washers to get the torque right on the money. I then red Locktite the flash suppressor.

Clearance is tight but they do clear fine with no shims required. Gemtech M96QD will also work and clear on this combo.

How does this compare to the Troy MRF-CX system? The chart showing weights is way different for both.....17 vs 10 ounses? Is that right? The DD can't be that much lighter....and the Troy can't be that heavy...

According to my digital postal scale the DD 9.5 FSP complete weighs 10.1 oz. I do not have a Troy CX to weigh but the MRF C weighs 11.1 oz on the same scale. My guess on the CX would be around 2-3 oz more.
