throated means the leade is set for the longer match bullet, if the manufacturer states that special throating is necessary you will want to check with the barrel maker to see what their recommendations are.

not particularly.........what assembled upper/barrel combos have a 1/7 twist w/ a 24" heavy barrel w/ no chrome lining for that price?

I would recommend the varmint rifle upper from White Oak Armament (www.whiteoakarmament.com/)
it's price similarly, but comes with a 1 in 7 twist that will stabilize an 80gr bullet well. Call Jeff Miller and ask him how it's throated, but I have a service rifle upper from WOA that shoots 80gr sierra's that are loaded long with ease. The 10 ring at 600 yards is 12 inches wide. |

Oh yeah, that's with a sling and iron sights, so a bench/bipod and glass would probably shrink that down.
Did I mention that White Oak is great? |
