Just taking a quick poll. Is yours marked MP or not?
LMT 16" M4 barrel, marked "5.56 NATO 1/7 CB". My barrel is not stamped "MP".
My coworker's barrel is stamped just like mine. |
I wonder why the 14.5's are stamped, and the 16's are not. Hrmmmm....
I wondered the same thing and that is why I contacted LMT.
My correspondent told me that all of their 14.5" and 16" barrels were MP. What have you seen in regards to their barrel stampings? Something's a little fishy. |
16's aren't marked it looks like, and 14.5's ARE.
I'm convinced now that they are ALL inspected, I just don't get why they don't mark them. Or, do they even make their own barrels? If the answer is no, then maybe they come from two different sources. |
I don't get why one length IS marked and the other one isn't. Makes no sense.
JLM,
Hmmmmmmm, I suspected that. I was wondering if Grant got back to you about your question regarding MP, etc.. -Jim |
Jim, yes he did. Karl Lewis says everything is MP. I haven't got any answer
from anyone thou on the issue of marking or not marking, and the rationale for doing so (or not). Email me or something man. Take it easy. |
I have a 14.5' barrel I just received today and it is NOT marked MP.....I hope I didn't get a "lower speced" barrel or something.
IIRC the M = Magnetic particle inspected and the P = Proof load fired. My LMT 14.5" barrel is stamped "MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 CB" |
not sure if proof load fired simply means it was test fired because I have the upper receiver tag that says it was test fired but it isn't stamped MP.... and what's CB stand for? Chrome barrel? Chrome Bore?
CB = Chrome Bore |
Hysperion,
Suggestion: Call LMT, and ask for Chip Witt for clarification. |
New LMT 14.5 upper, inspected 8-10-04, is marked "5.56 NATO 1/7 CB" . So, LMT, is this MP tested or not? Are all LMT barrels MP tested, thus no need to MP mark them, or are some and some aren't?
Please let us know what they tell you. |
Well according to chip the chrome lined barrels are tested....I thought mine was crome lined but now I'm going to have to double check...how do you tell if your barrel is chrome lined or not? I thought all the LMT barrels were chrome lined?
That's what the "CB" is for.
Chromed chamber AND bore. Pop open your upper and remove the bolt carrier group. Take a gander down into the chamber, where all the locking lugs are. Do you see a faded silverish ring along the outside diameter of the breech? That's the chrome lining. If you see that, then you definately have a chrome chamber. Look for the same when you check your bore, make sure you firearm is loaded, etc. etc. Check with a flashlight if need be. -Jim |
LOL!!!
Good catch, JLM. I'm debating on whether or not I should edit my post. That's so classic, it's almost a shame to touch it! |
LMT asdvised me that all barrels are MP checked. Some didn't get marked for some reason (they don't know why).... C4 |
MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 CB
16" As a sidenote I'm pretty damned happy with it so far-and I'm one of those hyper sensitive, picky Colt snobs |
My goodness! The FIRST 16" "MP" marked barrel amongst us! You win absolutely nothing! -Jim |
Jim,
You crack me up man! You forgot to tell him to load it, before he checked the muzzle end |
JLM,
I think that's a prize that none of us are willing to accept. -Jim |
DAMMIT! I never win at these contests Would I win anything by mentioning that the LMT logo was omitted on my upper? I don't have RAS numbers on the rail either. Everything else was in place-the feedramps, the barrel markings, the forged FSB, the factory inspection tag etc but my upper is bare (and I prefer it that way) |
The most important thing is that when you look at yourself in the mirror, you know that you're looking at a winner. That, in itself is the grandest prize of them all. <--- I'm so cool, I gotz to wearz shadez! -Jim |
That's all well and good, but a substantial cash prize can do short term wonders for someones flagging self esteem. Until that day happens, I'll just have to console myself with the fact that I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like me... |
14.5" made by LMT this month (Oct 2004,) not marked "MP."
Pretty damn pleased with the quality... It's as good as all the Colt's I have seen (and better than a couple I have seen.) Nicer by a bit than Bushy too. |
How do you tell if your barrel was made by LMT? I do have an "L" on the barrel extension if that helps... How do you tell "when" the barrel was made? Is there a mark on the barrel somewhere?
redsky383,
My LMT upper assembly has the following that are marked with an 'L': - Front sight base - Receiver/barrel extension Jim |
still waiting on my LE LMT lower/upper. ready to shoot./blast
