You're killing me with this!!!!
The next phase of my AR building will be custom colors. I've got to try it on at least one. |
Because it's a tool, built to serve a purpose, like most tools are. |
I don't see an auto sear pin, probably just overly rotated due to the pistol grip and detent not being installed.
And with KG, you paint the rifle the base color, and spray paint the pattern you want. If you dont like the color you added - just zip strip it off. The KG stays and even protects the plastic. Tested it yesterday
Why not? I dont understand why so many people are amazed at the appearance of any of my firearms. They are just tools, nothing else. If you want nice and pretty, collect ceramic cats
Correct. |

Allright brother, how much to coyote brown-a-fie my lower, upper, and barrel?
It's time. Thanks.....Chad |
Not sure about pricing yet, I'll know when this project is done. Turns out it takes as much paint to do the stock alone, as it does an upper receiver and float tube! |
That's what I've been planning to try. |
Ceramic Cats!!!! |
Every barrel, upper, etc. painted is rubbed down with MEK before being sent out, just to make sure the process worked. KG is amazing. |

Steve,
If I wanted to send an entire AR to you for coating, would it be best to send it all in parts, or as a complete rifle? |
What do you want to do with it? If you are just going for a solid foundation for more paint, paint it together. Painting all the pieces individually will obviously cost more than just painting an upper and lower..... I'm only doing this one in pieces to see what it takes in terms of paint, time, work, etc.. |
Definately a solid color as a base for a camo pattern with Krylon or Alumahyde II. I would just want KG Kote to be as thorough as possible. |

Gun Kote 2400 series is formulated with molybdenum disulfide lubricating base; and Gun Kote 1600 series is formulated with a high concentration of PTFE as a lubricating base and new for 2002 is our Boron based coatings. Technical General Outstanding corrosion protection. 500-hour salt spray tests at 5% salt. Damnit Steve, you're killing me!!! Stop the madness AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
[thinking to myself] I really don't want to do this to any of my current herd so I guess I'll have to buy a new rifle from ADCO. How will I get it past the wife?[/thinking to myself] |
My God.... all the things I want that I can't afford.... the insanity of it all.
ETA: hey post #333. |
Looks nice Bigbore. What do you plan on doing your subsequent camo layers with? AH2 or Krylon?
Nice coverage with the KG on the lower! |
I'm going to do the KG, slap on a for sale sign, and let the buyer do with it as they please |
Absolutely. |
Ah, so it's a PROFIT DEAL!! Now it makes sense |
Reckon GK would hope up on Glock plastic? I sure would like an OD G36.
333... Half way to hell. |
I agree. I like the OD.

I'm alittle behind on the coatings industry.
Am reading the curing process correctly, 212 degrees for 2 hours and it's as tough or tougher than a phosphate finish? And I can just order it from Brownells? Are there any particular lubes that have to be used with the moly dis properties of Gun Kote. I guess it's time to do a search on KG! mark |
You could just send it all my way, I will figure it out for you
So you could do my Sig OD? |
OD Forend, Black Barrel/Sites, Brown Rail Guards,
OD Upper, Brown Lower, Black Furniture, OD Sling. Sammy
No worries. It still looks good!!! Personally I would say OD and black for the whole firearm. Does this finish wear at all, or is it comparible to finishes like ArmorTuff, Birdsong T, Metacol, Bearcoat, etc.?
Thanx. Sammy

Are you asking about the complete rifle, or the multi colored upper I just posted pics of? |
I am working on a new rifle and am going to want the upper, lower, and barrel done OD. |
Does this finish wear at all, or is it comparible to finishes like ArmorTuff, Birdsong T, Metacol, Bearcoat, etc.?
Sammy |
Any finish will wear., and it does have a teflon and boron. I would say its every bit as tough if not tougher than all those above - with the added benefit that it goes on thinner than all those above. KG SPecs |
