I have a carbine MRP with the 16" SS. I'll try and get some pics. I know you will like it.

How many round do you have through it?  How is it holding up?  Pros/cons?

thanks!

Due my workload at work, I've only put about 50 rnds through it as a barrel break-in. I have both Hornady 75gr TAP & BH  75gr Match ammo waiting and I am hoping to get to the range this weekend. The BCG is all Colt.  No cons at this time (don't really expect any). It handles almost as well as the 2 MSTN 16" Recce's I have. I say almost just because I haven't had sufficient time to work with it as I have the others. I'll post pics, targets, & additional comments after this weekend. I'll be using both an Aimpoint M2 & NXS 2.5-10X.

Rifle length MRP w/ 16" barrel.  Does this qualify as a carbine?

Same thing as SMGLee, but with a Magpul stock.  Gotta do some tweaking with my PWA lower and bolt release though, because I seem to have some feeding issues with the mag not sitting up as high as it should.  So damn fun to shoot!

Lumpy, I'm gonna get an MRP if they ever make them in 6.8 (they are waiting on ammo) and I'll get some pics up for you.

I'll get one damnit.  As soon as I get a few group buys and the SEBR out of the way, I'm going to divert all my funds to a rifle length with 18" SS barrel, and then I'm going to work on getting it customized.

Ok, Wes1 and those that wanted to see the 16" carbine MRP. This was a quick pic. If it doesn't rain this weekend, she's off to the range. I'll take some better outdoor pics of her, along with my MSTN 5.56MM Reece MOD1 twin. When LMT has 6.8SPC barrels & bolts, she going to up graded, so she will be my second 6.8SPC carbine. The 1st is a 6.8SPC MSTN MOD1 (the other twin). I do like mid-length gas systems.

Shown here with:
BM Lower
KAC 2-Stage FCG
LMT/Crane
Leupy MR/T M1/LaRue Tactical Mount (will be using both an NXS 2.5-10X & Aimpoint M2 this weekend)
Troy FS
GG&G MADD BUIS

Enjoy

k9dpd,
You should try the 16" SS mid-length. Its a sweet shooter and very much sub-MOA at least in the SS 16" barrel. I may sent mine SS barrel back to Wes for coating, depending on how long it takes LMT to offer 6.8SPC barrels.

ETA: During barrel break in, I used both Federal 69gr Match & Hornady 75gr TAP. The Federal shot 0.75 MOA versus >0.6MOA for the Hornady 75gr TAP, so mine definitely has preference for the TAP loading.

HKocher,
Give me a little time, I always have twins. Wes is building me a new MOD1 Recce, I'm waiting to see which will be the next! The MRP or the new one

Corporal_Chaos,
You are SOL. You are on your own. Mines a keeper whether if it remains in 5.56MM or gets upgarded to 6.8SPC. Sorry....

Lumpy, it looks like might be. My personal preference is a barrel mounted front sight versus on the rail. Both seem to work equal as well for 100M or less even with a fore grip (at least for me). After I get my next Recce build from Wes, I plan to pursue this path with Wes.

Wouldnt a barrel mounted front sight lose zero when swapping?

C_J,

It a FF fore end can be rotated (I personally haven't been able to break one date), then your BUIS is now Tango Uniform. This is very much an individual thing. My preference as stated is barrel mounted. I learned from the Chapman Academy ( Ray, himself ), where the barrel points is where the bullet goes, pistol or rifle.

pcurtis, I meant on an MRP, I'm going to get one when 6.8 barrels start shipping. I see what you mean with the twisted rail though.

The barrel O.D. is 0.750, same as the standard gas block.

If you can get the right slots cut in the barrel sides, it ought to work.

C_J,

If both barrels/FS are zeroed,  then you should still get the same results as swapping barrels with a rail mounted FS. It would be the barrel attachment tolerance.

I had talked to Wes when the MRP first came in and after much discussion I opted for the rifle length MRP with a 16" chromelined barrel.  Damn, it will soon be close to a year that I 've had it and I have yet to shoot it.
