did they make them a different size as compared to the parts made today?

i swapped parts from an sp1 to a new lower and the safety selector switch extended out the side further than other ARs and kept knocking against one of the safety tabs.

is this something to expect with old colt parts or would it have something to do with the oly lower?

Oly only mills one of the stops part way off.  An Sp1 does not have selector stops.
