Grip is a personal thing... Some seem to think it's blasphemy if you change the factory grip, while others believe you gotta spend $$$ on a grip that can open beer bottles.
I have owned most every mainstream grip out there, except for the "SPR" grip (I'm left handed).
I had a Tango Down grip... for about 5 minutes! I absolutely HATED it. Yeah, you can put batteries in it, but it was no bigger than the A2 grip, and as such still felt like a broomstick to me. If it fits your hand, then great... but it didn't fit mine.
I've also owned Hogue, Ergo and Fobus.
Hogue is super comfy, and I was perfectly happy with it, until I saw an Ergo grip.
Ergo "Rhino Grip" was too slick. Ergo "Sure Grip" is my favorite, although I too wish it was thicker.
Fobus was pretty good as far as size, but yes the finger grooves were quite pronounced and I prefer the rubber coated grips, or extremely textured ones, neither of which the Fobus is.
I went to the store to purchase the Pachmayr grip when it came out about 10 years ago... I was all set to go, money in my pocket, then I picked up the package. Does it come with a free BRICK?
I thought to myself... The thing must weigh 2 pounds, and it just didn't have a place on my AR. I just bought another 30 round mag and left.
To repeat myself, grips are a personal preference. Every grip out there is the perfect grip for somebody.
If you like skinny grips, then maybe the TD is for you. The texturing on it is excellent BTW.
If you want a little more to hold onto than the A2, with finger grooves and a good rubber texture, then I'd vote for the Hogue.
If you prefer large grips, then the Ergo or Fobus, depending on how much finger groove action you want, or if you prefer rubber or plastic
is probably for you.
And last but not least, if you like the feel of a big honkin revolver, and want to add a little weight to your rifle, then look at Pachmayr.
After the new Magpul grip is available, I'm sure I'll end up trying that one too.
