I saw a barrel today that's said to be a GI M16 barrel.  There's no marking what so ever on it.  Are all GI military barrels marked?  I think the only suppliers are Colt or FN.  Also, did GI use HBAR?  this barrel is Hbar and I thought all GI 20" are A2 government profile.

As for the front sight block, the surfaces are nicely flat, either it's finely cast, or it's been nicely milled and finished..  But I can see seams on bayonet lug where 2 halves mated.  Is this a sign of casting or forging?

In other word, if there aren't any markings on it, it ain't GI

thanks for the info, really appreciate it.  its no GI then.  it also has a very fine seam, and sure looks prettier, but toughness is way more important.
