yeah i seen a 5/32 on brownells website it appeared to be a tad smaller than the one i have that is to large... sooo remembering back to my fractions in HS.. i think that will probably work : )

1/16th punch.
You can get a craftsman at Sears for $4.99, or an off brand elsewhere.... I often just use a 1/16th inch drill bit to knock it out..... if I dont have a punch handy. Works fine, and CHEAP! www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=184086 |

I used a small finish nail to drive mine out. My roll pin punch was getting stuck about 1/3 of the way in and I was getting scared it would break off. The finish nail worked perfectly.

Brownells also has roll pin punches if you want to take it out and reuse the same pin. The punches have a dimple on the end to keep them centered on the pin so the pins won't spread as easily.

1/16 is the hole size but the roll pins are larger.

Watch out on the cheap ones, sometimes they snap off in the holes

First time I messed with a barrel I didn't have a punch handy and ended up using a short piece of coat hanger wire. Its soft enough that you wouldn't have to worry about it breaking on you. This was on a fairly new rifle but on an older one with a lot of rounds through it this may not work. I guess this could be the "don't have a punch, no one is open now, and I want to take it apart now" option.

Gas Tube Roll Pin size is 5/56". You can order ones designed for roll pins from Brownells individually or in a set. I recommend the set. Also consider the "Roll Pin Holder" punch set, especially the 1/16" and 5/64" sizes. Also order a 1/16" "Starter Punch" and use this to "start" the 5/64" Gas Tube Pin moving. Done this thousands of time...trust me. |
