This is one of those things that pictures dont do justice. The lighting/flash and such make it hard to really tell how it looks through pictures.
This was more of a camo job, not a paint. There are highlight and lowlights, and it isnt pretty up close - but its KG, and its on there for good! I'm happy with how it turned out, and cant wait to do one for a customer build.  I was surprised how well the KG matched going on the stainless steel barrel, and the black flash hider and DD 9.5.  Did I mention I can do this all in house now

Nice. I kind of like how it fades out on the barrel nut and when you get to the top and bottom rails. Do you have to beadblast the stainless before you KG it?

The SS is blasted first, the other pieces are degreased.

Dark Earth Brown is AWESOME! I had this one built by GA Precision and done in Dark Earth KG. For those that may be interested, I did the stock with Brownells Coyote Alumahyde II. I was impressed with the color match between the Alumahyde II and the KG. It is nice for those items that can't be baked.

Sand blast before gunkote. Never use glass beads. The sand "cuts" the surface where the glass beads just dimple it. The cut surface holds the gunkote much better. When the gunkote is baked at (at least) 275 degrees F (for one hour) the gunkote forms what are called longchain bonds and with the cut surface it actually seeps into the metal. Much better bond and will not chip or flake off EVER where it can with glass beadding. Now that the ban is over I am going to build another M4 done in KG flat dark earth just cause,

We found "play sand" works the best. The Gas block is the kind used on the real SPRs. I like it much more than the commercial versions because with this one the screws dont stick out the bottom.

IDHunt- Was it the alumahyde II that didn't need baking? If it is how long did you let it dry/cure? How is the durability on alumahyder II? Can Gun Kote not be cured in the oven and still be durable even on a barrel?

Alumahyde doesn't need to be baked, but it takes a long time to cure fully. Gunkote has to be heated to cure.

Dation,
No baking I let it cure for 72 hours before I did anything with it. It is good stuff. I have accidentally spilled solvent on it and it discolors until the solvent dries and it is back to original color. The best thing about this color his how cool your rifle stays. I have shot it and my black PSS side by side and the PSS will get warm/hot from the sun and the coyote AICS rifle stays pretty cool. When I stop shooting the coyote rifle it cools down, the PSS will stay hot from the sun. I wanted something that I could take to dynamite/tactical shoots and be able to shoot and not have extra heating because of the color absorbing heat from the sun. This color does an awesome job.
