On a barrel that is less than 16", you still have to permanently attach a FS/muzzle device and get it out to 16".
On a 16" barrel, no you don't. All you have to do is have a barrel that is 16" in length and a rifle that is 26" in length overall, even with a collpasible stock collapsed all the way. |

Minimum barrel length was never addressed in the 1994 Crime Bill, that's a NFA-34 issue.
You still need a barrel at least 16" long. That means your M4 Carbine will need a slightly longer than USGI flash supressor permanently affixed to the muzzle, or you need to register it as a SBR. -- Chuck |

smith vortex permanently monuted on a 14.5 " bbl , will make it 16"
i dont know personnally , but some people say its not recommended to permanently attach it to the bbl. just what i have read. meat
