It started out as a Vortex G6 flash hider.  I did some measuring on this and another custom flash hider I found and I realized I could take the G6 and thread it, as the OD of the G6 where the flats are is the same as the OD of the threads on the other custom flash hider I have.  So I started by reducing the OD and shortening the tines of the G6.  Now the thread protector will fit over the tines.  Then I threaded the end of the G6.  I had to do some other touching up to make the thread protector fit on properly and allow the FH to be mounted.

I have a weakness for cool/custom FHs so I decided to play with this.  It is just a fancy decoration, but it still is the best functional flash hider out there.  I'm happy with the results.

Unless I change my mind, this is headed for my SAM-R clone, after I parkerize the FH and the collar.

More reasons for me see my working in a business office as AR half-empty instead of AR half-full.

I envy your  tools and the skills!

Here's the other custom FH I used for rough dimensions on my own custom job:

Here's what it looks like installed on my RECCE carbine clone:

The FH came on an upper I bought on ebay before the 'tards banned the sale of AR parts.  I have this FH at work and I will be duplicating it for another upper I have in the works.  Like I said earlier, I have a fetish for cool/custom muzzle devices.

Holy flash hiders Batman!!!!

Mongo, very impresive work.   I've been playing with a couple of solid model designs (CAD) for something like this.... and then you go and make one!

IMPRESSIVE!   Great work.    The custom unit on your 16" actually got my slow mind pondering the idea.

There will be more.  I've got a line on a lathe for home.  There is alot of stuff I can't do at work because of where I work.  I can get small parts through security without them caring, but I may cross the line when I try to bring major components in, like barrels.

There will be no end to the evil I can create now.

Alright, here's the deal.  I work on these things on my spare time, which is sometimes alot and sometimes not.  I tried to park this setup earlier this month and the park solution I bought was bad, and the park job didn't go well.  FYI for your park'ing guys out there, Adventec sells park solutions on ebay and they are bad.  Go here for testimonials:  Bad park' chemicals.

I have the recommended park' solution coming and will give the park' thing a go again and see how it goes.  Then I can get a mounted pic for you all.  Should be by the end of Nov., maybe.

Finally your SAM-R is finished!  And it came out quite nicely if I may say so myself.  What barrel did you use?

Not really finished yet.  I have a KAC 600m coming for it and one for the SPR also.  Having trouble finding a KAC front flip for the SPR, but I'm still shopping.

The SAM-R barrel is a Bushmaster DCM barrel, with the 1" profile under the handguards.  Close to the original, but not quite.  Not Krieger or whatever they use and no M4 extension, but for a slow fired, target/sniper setup the ramps aren't needed.  If/when I shoot out this barrel, I may step up to the real deal, but the $550 price tag is STEEP.

Damn nice work, you do have some skills! Totally off subject, but is that a rubber recoil pad on the end of your RECCE Clone? If so, can you tell me brand name and where you got it? I have been looking for one.

I don't know if this is the exact one I had on that carbine at that time, but it is close.  It is the first link I found on Google that showed a pic that was close.  You could get it from anywhere, I'd imagine.  It now has a Crane clone stock on it.

Damn RECCE is still tore apart, 'cause my lathe isn't running yet.  Gotta wire a motor now.

For Corporal_Chaos - My SAM-R barrel is a Bushmaster DCM/CMP barrel, stainless with 1/8 twist.  Really couldn't justify the $550 or so for the real Kreiger barrel or whatever they really use, but the profile is the same, anyway.

Yours is done ready for the park' tank.

I wish I could charge people time for my work, so I would have more time to do more work, which I could charge people time for.  Does that make sense??

Yes very... in a negative way.  Decreased suppressor life and decreased accuracy.  The initial baffle of an OpsInc can IS the brake and it was designed to be used with the brake.

These were created as ornamental pieces more than anything else.  Since I never had the chance to get a suppressor, much less an Ops Inc suppressor, I was just playing around with the concept looking for something new and different.
