If you are happy with 1:9 twist then go for a Bushmaster, no doubt about it. If you want a 1:7 twist and can wait a little while then order one of these: [url=http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=28&t=139428]Special 16" 1:7 twist barrels[/url] [;)]

some good prices. what I am asking though is if Colt barrel is truly better than Bushmaster. I'm fine with either 1/7 or 1/9, but it's the accuracy and the durability that I'm concerned of. By the way this is for 20".

IMHO, they are dead even when it comes to accuracy and durability. What it really will comes down to is availability [;)]
Honestly, you're probably not going to see any difference in accuracy between the two. |

I agree with the above. Between Colt and Bushmaster barrels the only variables would be price and availability. (Since twist is N/A.)
I would go the bushmaster route. With the $$$ saved you can pick up some spare mags, ammo, optics, etc. |

If you wanted a 1x7 20" bushmaster has those too. Save the money go with bushmaster.

Since we're talking about saving money here why not buy one of the new FN 1:7 twist 20" barrels from [blue]right2keep[/blue]? He's selling them for only $155. The gov't profile Bushmaster barrel is $185.
Keep you eye on the EE too because I bought a brand new, gov't profile, chrome-lined, 1:7 twist, Colt barrel for $180 a couple of months ago and I've seen several others pop up since then. |

Have 1/7 Colt barrels on all my AR's, including the pre-ban Bushmaster, pre-ban PWA, and even the pre-ban Colt.

I have 2 of each "brand" and there's no difference at all other than their markings. All are fully chrome lined.
I won't buy barrels other than these two brands and there's nothing between them to choose which is "better." -- Chuck |

So the mfg process by Colt and Bushmaster is the same for the barrel? Or maybe they even contract out to the same place to make them. They both "Mag Particle" test the barrel right?
The talk of the FN barrels, those should also be MilSpec since FN is a govt contractor now right? Is it also chromelined and MP'd? Any review or feedback regarding its quality vs. Colt and Bush? |

As several folks have mentioned, the only difference worth mentioning is that one barrel will have a "B" and the other will have a "C". Beyond that, the only difference is cost.

There are three differences. First as stated one has a B and one a C on the barrel.
The other differences are the fed ramps on the Colt carbine barrels are of the extended type while they are the standard type on Bushmaster. Bushmaster assebles the front sight base to the barrel then parks the unit. Colt parks the pieces then assembles them. If you remove the front sight base on a Bushy there will be a strip of uncoated barrel where the solution could not get in. For practical purposes those differences mean nothing. You can get either barrel in military profiles in 1/9 or 1/7 twists. |
